HIS 3387 The Crusades

Survey of the crusading movement, with particular focus on the Crusades to the Middle East from the eleventh to the thirteenth century. Topics include, in addition to the Crusades themselves, concepts of just war and crusade, warrior mentality, the Crusader States, the military orders, and the crusading movement's connections with the political, religious, cultural, economic, and social developments in Western Europe, Byzantium, and the Islamic Middle East.
