HIS 3352 Texas History
The course begins with the original native American inhabitants of Texas and Cabeza de Vaca, Coronado and the first European explorers. It then proceeds to an examination of the Spanish and Mexican periods, the Texas independence movement and the establishment of the Republic of Texas. The course treats early statehood, Confederate Texas and the Civil War. Emphasis is on post-Civil War Texas, built first on cattle and agriculture, then augmented by petroleum and industrialization.
