4+1 in Philosophy

Braniff’s 4+1 program allows Philosophy majors and other qualified undergraduates to continue their studies, earning a B.A. and an M.A. in a shorter period of time. Up to four approved graduate courses taken during senior year may count toward the M.A. Note that these courses are in addition to the 120 credit hours required for the B.A.

Interested students should contact their undergraduate advisor and the Philosophy master’s graduate director by the spring semester of their junior year.

Senior Year Options

  • Up to four graduate courses (12 credit hours) beyond the requirements for the bachelor’s degree with final grades of B or higher
  • Students with at least a 3.66 GPA in undergraduate courses after completing 90 undergraduate credits may count 6 credit hours of graduate coursework towards their undergraduate degree as well
  • 3000-level language course with a final grade of B or higher satisfies the language requirement for the M.A. in Philosophy

Master of Arts in Philosophy

  • 24 additional credit hours, minus approved graduate credits taken during senior year
  • Comprehensive examination
  • Thesis, 6 credit hours

Master of Philosophy

  • 30 additional credit hours, minus approved graduate credits taken during senior year
  • Comprehensive examination
