PHI 8335 Spinoza
An advanced seminar on Spinoza’s Ethics, with collateral reading in his Theologico-Political Treatise, Emendation of the Intellect, or Short Treatise. Close reading of primary texts will be complemented by discussions of recent scholarly literature and of student research. There will be an emphasis on writing for publication and students will get to know the various scholarly communities that read and write about Spinoza, with a view to refining their own scholarly aspirations.
