PHI 8325 Maimonides
An advanced seminar on Maimonides’s Guide of the Perplexed, with collateral reading in his Commentary on the Mishnah and Mishneh Torah (Code of Law) as well as in the broader intellectual tradition of Jewish and Islamic theology and philosophy to which Maimonides is responding. Close reading of the primary texts will be complemented by discussions of recent scholarly literature.
