MEDH 5310 Health Law and Policy

This course is designed to familiarize students with the legal environment that shapes the U.S. health care system. Students will examine federal and state laws to develop an understanding of the role of government in health systems and policy. Students will also develop an appreciation for the legal, ethical, and practical issues that must be addressed in the development of health policy. Course topics include an overview of major public health law, American Medical Association Issue Briefs and excerpts from laws managing potentially criminal activities, review of tort law in relation to negligence and malpractice, and key reports on patient consent and privacy for clinical practice and research.
