EDU 5F24 Foundations of Assessment and Reflective Practice in Catholic Education

This course explores the philosophy and practice of assessment in Catholic schools, focusing on supporting students’ academic, social, and spiritual development. Future educators will learn to
design, implement, and interpret a variety of assessment tools while upholding principles of fairness, validity, and reliability.  Students will examine the purposes of both formative and summative assessments, develop skills in constructing selected-response, constructed-response, and performance-based formats, and explore authentic strategies, including assessments in religious education.
The course emphasizes alignment between assessment and instruction, the use of data to inform teaching, differentiation to meet diverse learner needs, and improvement through reflective
practices such as journaling and peer collaboration. Educators will also learn to establish clear grading practices, navigate standardized testing, and apply assessment data to evaluate learning
and teaching effectiveness.
