EDU 5F23 Foundations of Child and Adolescent Growth and Development

This course provides a foundational study of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development in children and adolescents, framed by Catholic educational philosophy and practice. Students will follow one of two tracks based on their intended teaching level: Early Childhood/Elementary (PK–5) or Secondary (6–12), with all students examining development during middle childhood.
Rooted in a Catholic view of the human person as a unity of body, mind, and soul, the course presents human development as a journey toward flourishing, virtue, and holiness. Students will
explore developmental theories in dialogue with Church teachings on human dignity, health, and the formation of intellect and character.
