THE 6390 Theology/Nature/Mission-Priest

The course investigates the history of the theology of the priesthood especially as configured to Christ, and explores the munera of the priestly office that derive from its configuration to Christ. After an historical study, the course focuses on the priesthood as it is presented in Pastores Dabo Vobis. The spiritual life of the priest, especially the importance of the Mass and Eucharistic Adoration, praying the Liturgy of the Hours, lectio divina, spiritual reading and the importance of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary are explored. Obedience, celibacy and simplicity of life for the diocesan priest will also be considered. Finally, the course analyzes the Roman Pontifical “Rite of Ordination of a Priest” as a summary of the Church’s teaching on the Sacred Priesthood.”
