HIS 3364 History of Latin America II
This course is the second half of a broad survey of Latin American history, focusing on post-1860 history. This course will begin with a brief review of colonial, independence, and post-independence history. The main topics covered will include: Church-state relations, liberal economics and philosophy, the ‘social question’ and social justice, mass politics and populism, U.S.-Latin American relations, regional identity, modernism and modernization, liberation theology, revolutionary movements, dictatorships and democratization, and various contemporary issues.
