HIS 3350 The American South
Surveys Southern history from the colonial and national period, through secession, Civil War and reconstruction, to the 20th-century struggles over segregation and considers the continuing importance of the South in national politics and the national imagination. The course also provides an understanding of the field of Southern history as a separate area of study within American history, revolving around the question of Southern distinctiveness and the extent of continuity and of change between the "Old South" and the "New South."
