DBA Course Information
The DBA program requires completion of 62 credit hours over a three-year period including preparation and defense of a doctoral dissertation. The DBA is a cohort program that uses a hybrid approach that combines residency sessions with on-line learning. Courses included in this program consist of the following:
- Thirty eight semester hours of course work introducing micro and macro research issues in business, professional development workshops, and career transition strategies. These courses will be completed during seven semesters of study. This includes 20 semester hours of content courses and 18 semester hours of research methods.
- Six semester hours of doctoral colloquia. The colloquium is designed to facilitate the development and enhancement of professional working relationships between students and their major professor. As such, the colloquium sequence assures that the DBA students are making adequate progress toward developing an independent applied research study for the required dissertation. The colloquium also provides supplemental instruction in research, teaching, writing, presentation, and career transition strategies.
- Eighteen semester hours of focused dissertation research. It is possible that some students will not complete the dissertation within three years, and those students will be required to take 6 hours of Doctoral Readings each semester until program completion.
