PSY 4323 Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy

A detailed consideration of the treatment aspect of clinical psychology. Major theories of and approaches to psychotherapy are presented: psychoanalytic, Jungian, Rogerian, Gestalt, existential, phenomenological and behavioral. Emphasis is placed upon the phases of psychotherapy, the role of transference and counter-transference in the therapeutic process, the use of dreams and the ethical responsibilities of the psychotherapist.
