POL 3358 The American Founding

The Founders’ understanding of politics and human life will be studied through original documents, especially those of statesmen and elected bodies acting in their official capacity. Themes will include the Founders’ understanding of equality, liberty, natural rights, consent, public policy, nobility, happiness and the structure of national and state government. Liberal and conservative critiques of the Founders will also be considered.
