ENG 5325 Augustan Literature
This course introduces eighteenth-century English literature and its complicated relationship with the classical Roman inheritance through a survey of representative genres, including the essay, novel, drama, historical narrative, and poetry (lyric, satirical, pastoral, and georgic). Authors studied include Addison, Swift, Pope, Johnson, Congreve, Goldsmith, Cowper, Smollett, Fielding, and Hume.
