Academic Advising - Degree Works

The Office of the Constantin Deans oversees undergraduate academic advising. Each new undergraduate student is assigned to a faculty advisor who is concerned with the scholastic, vocational and social interests of the student. In most cases, the advisor also will have the student in a class during the first semester. The ‘advising session’ makes possible easy and regular contact between faculty advisor and advisee. Mid-term grades are reported to both student and advisor. While they are not a part of the permanent record, they provide a warning of potential academic problems.

During New Student Orientation, various placement tests are administered to new students, unless completed by mail during the summer. Personal interviews assist the student in choosing suitable courses of study. Most course scheduling for new students is developed prior to registration. In addition to providing an audit of requirements needed to complete the degree, the interviews assist with course selection and help prepare for plans following graduation. Students are responsible for knowing and fulfilling all requirements for graduation.

Degree Works:

Degree Works is the University’s degree audit (what classes to take) and course planning (when to take these classes) software. The software will assist both students and advisors in performing the basic functions associated with the student's course requirements for graduation.  The audit includes core required classes, major required classes, concentration (if pursuing) required courses, electives and additional courses, insufficient classes and in progress classes.  A "What If" option is available so a student or advisor can see what classes are required for a different major than is currently being pursued by the student.  An ongoing tally of credits completed, remaining and needed to graduate are available as well.
