Master of Arts in Theology
Degree Requirements
- Twenty four graduate credits of coursework in Theology. A maximum of twelve credits may be earned in 5000 level and cross-listed courses
- A reading knowledge of Greek, Latin, French or German. With permission from the Chair and approval of the Graduate Dean, Italian, Spanish or another language may count towards this
requirement.
- Written and oral comprehensive examinations covering all areas of Theology. Contact Chair or Administrative Assistant for Official Comprehensive Reading List.
- Six credits for Research and Thesis (THE 7678). The M.A. thesis should be a scholarly paper of substantial length (50-100 pages) and of at least relative originality. See the M.A. Handbook.
Notes on Requirements
- For information on transfer credits, please refer to “Graduate School Policies” in the “Braniff Graduate School of Liberal Arts” section.
- Coursework for both Master’s programs, the M.A. and the M.Th., must include at least one course from each of the four sub-disciplines in theology: Scriptural, Historical, Systematic, and Moral. In case of doubt, the chair can specify to which area a course belongs.
- M.A. students must choose a language that offers substantial scholarly literature relevant to the subject matter of the thesis. See the M.A. Handbook.
- There are different sets of written and oral comprehensive examinations for the M.A. and for the M.Th. The M.A. has an “Official Comprehensive Reading List” available from the
Chair or Administrative Assistant. These exams are usually taken upon completion of the required course work.
