BUS 4331 Management Information Systems
Management Information Systems knowledge prepares students for work in any business environment by providing an understanding on how computers support work in multinational, medium-sized, and small companies, including differences between public, private, profit, government and not-for profit organizations. The course starts with how students use computers, what they mean to them, and how they will progress in using them throughout their career in business. Then, business strategy is defined and its relationship to IT strategy is developed along with concepts of organizational maturity. Different applications of IT are developed including social media, e-business, business intelligence, enterprise applications, security, and so on. Then, students are introduced to basic IS concepts in term of how business people work with IS to develop applications, including discussions on data, applications, networking and hardware. Finally, the importance of innovation in the use of emerging technologies to continuously improving an organization's competitive position are discussed.
