A close reading of Cervantes’s masterpiece, Don Quijote. Examination of Don Quijote’s place in the development of prose fiction (books of chivalry, pastoral romance and the picaresque novels of the sixteenth century) as well as its impact on Spanish literature and the European novel in general. Includes some of Cervantes’s later short Novelas ejemplares.
