About the Pre-Theology Program
Diocesan seminarians and seminarians from religious orders complete the academic component of their priestly formation in coursework offered by the Constantin College of Liberal Arts while being formed at neighboring Holy Trinity Seminary and other houses of formation close to the university.
Seminarians who have already earned a Bachelor’s degree enroll in the Pre-Theology Program with a view to earning the Certificate in Propaedeutic Studies. (Seminarians who have not obtained a Bachelor’s degree enroll as majors in the Philosophy and Letters Program, which is described elsewhere in this bulletin.) Candidates should display that they have earned an undergraduate degree and completed their undergraduate studies in good academic standing. Candidates for admission to this program must also meet admission requirements stipulated by their dioceses or religious orders with regard to academic achievement, personal character, and spiritual maturity.
The Pre-Theology Program adheres to the norms established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Program of Priestly Formation. To earn the Certificate in Propaedeutic Studies, post-baccalaureate seminarians must complete the specified pre-theology course of studies, which consists of 48 credit hours, be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0, and earn a grade of C– or better in each course.
By means of the Pre-Theology Program, seminarians are prepared for those graduate studies in theology required for priestly ordination.
