Campus Ministry

Central to the university is its liturgical, spiritual and lived faith life. Daily and weekend liturgies are offered on campus and at St. Albert the Great Dominican Priory, Our Lady of Dallas Cistercian Abbey, and Holy Trinity Seminary, which are also located on or adjacent to the campus.

Programming in the Office of Campus Ministry uses as its parameters two documents of the Catholic Church: Empowered by the Spirit, a pastoral letter of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (now the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) and Ex Corde Ecclesiae, an encyclical concerning Catholic university life written by Pope St. John Paul II. Flowing from the wisdom of these two documents and, most importantly, the centrality of our Catholic identity in the Eucharist, there is a wide variety of student-led catechetical, spiritual, and service-oriented programs sponsored by the Office of Campus Ministry.

Service to the Church and society is integral to the work of Campus Ministry. Our office aspires to expose the students and community to the possibilities of personal sacrifice in service to others. Responding to our baptismal vocation, we offer students opportunities to learn about and practice Catholic Social Teaching through programs such as  Alternative Spring Break and Mercy Crew. Men's Society and Blessed is She gather regularly for faith sharing, community, and to reflect on topics relevant to college-age men and women.  Under the Office of Campus Ministry, missionaries of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) facilitate Bible studies and empower students to do the same. Students of all faith traditions are welcome to participate in all Campus Ministry programming. For those students from other faith traditions who wish to inquire about the Roman Catholic faith, we offer the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The Office of Campus Ministry also sponsors Crusaders for Life, Best Buddies, and the Ozanam Project.

The Genesis Retreat is held in the fall for all incoming undergraduate students and Crusader Awakening in the spring is open to all undergraduate students. Both off-campus retreats aim to deepen our students’ faith and to strengthen healthy relationships.

Through Campus Ministry students are provided opportunities to enhance their leadership skills while deepening their life of faith. The Campus Ministry office aims to help students encounter Christ through the sacraments and works of mercy in a way that makes them effective disciples after their graduation.
