ENG 6395 Studies in the Novel
Consideration of the relatedness of form to the subject of the one literary mode practiced almost exclusively by modern authors. Of special concern, the various novelists' portrayals of large social developments in counterpoint to their presentation of the fate of a central character. Authors most frequently included:
Richardson, Defoe, Fielding, Austen, Flaubert, Stendahl, E. Bronte, Dickens, Trollope, Hardy, Gogol, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Twain.
