ENG 6357 Victorian Literature
Study of fiction, essays and poetry of the Victorian era in England. Writers of all modes confronted questions relating to realism, the conflicting claims of religion and science, the development of participatory democracy, the Industrial Revolution and the re-direction of the artist within society. Authors studied include Dickens, Thackeray, Eliot, Tennyson, Browning, Arnold, Carlyle and J.S. Mill.
