PSY 3355 Evolutionary Psychology

Examination of human behavior and the human mind through the lens of evolutionary psychology.  In this class, we will view the mind as an evolved, adapted organ that has operated in the service of survival and successful reproduction.  We begin with a historical review of evolutionary biology, which is followed by a review of the basic topics of evolutionary psychology, including problems of survival, long-term and short-term mating, sexuality, parenting, kinship, cooperation, aggression and warfare, conflict between the sexes, status, prestige and dominance hierarchies.  Current research and critiques are examined and discussed throughout the semester.
