Summary of Program Requirements
- Registration: A minimum of one year enrollment
- Advising: 2 meetings per semester with assigned advisor
- Coursework requirements (see below)
- A positive evaluation on the comprehensive examination
- Completion of above requirements within 6 years of matriculation at the university of Dallas.
Course requirements for the Master of Arts (M.A.) in English
- Eight courses (24 credits) and ENG 7678 Thesis Research (6 credits), with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Submission of Master's Thesis, approximately 40 pages of original critical work
- Demonstrated proficiency in a foreign language
The courses must include the following:
- ENG 5315: Introduction to Literary Study, taught each fall term
- Five graduate level seminars in English literature
Notes
- Transfer credits: Refer to Graduate School Policies for transfer credit information.
- Language proficiency: Before beginning the M.A. thesis the candidate will demonstrate a reading competency in Greek, Latin, French, German, Spanish, or Italian. The language requirement may be met by completing an upper level language course with a grade of B or better or by passing an examination in translation.
Application
- Completed application form
- Statement of purpose and intellectual autobiography (750 to 1000 words)
- Official transcripts of previous college work
- General GRE test scores (from within the last five years)
- Two letters of recommendation
- A sample of academic writing (preferably a literary analysis of approx. 10 pp.)
- Applications will be evaluated regardless of undergraduate major.
