ENG 4360 American Literature

Study of major American writers, predominantly of the nineteenth century, focusing upon Hawthorne, Melville, Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Dickinson, Twain and James. Reflection upon the definitive stresses productive of the national character and upon continuing tensions generated by the meeting of the New World with the Old.
